Thank you to the Streator Family YMCA for hosting our program's visit, treating us to doughnuts and giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the facility's operations. YMCA executive director Shannon Harback and her soon-to-be successor Natalie R. Alexander led a presentation and tour, including a look at the pool's pump room. After an ice breaker game, we learned about the different services the Y provides, how its managed and how it gets its funding. Shannon talked about the different people of all ages that utilize the YMCA for a variety of services, from preschool, to fitness courses, to recreational activities, among other areas. Shannon and Natalie spoke about their career paths and introduced us to the term "transferrable skills," which are skills universally valued for any job. Shannon shared with us the quote, "Get comfortable with being uncomfortable." and talked about how to approach new challenges.
