Thank you to Afton, Arlette and Greg at Danchris Nursery for talking to us about running a generational family business, giving us a tour and treating us to doughnuts. Afton talked about the various aspects that go into operating a landscaping business, including math, horticulture, art/design, architecture, using technology and staying organized, among others. She shared the value of working in her family's business, highlighting that she was able to go into a subject she was familiar with and to work with people close to her. Having volunteered on various boards, she spoke about the impact an individual can have working in a small town, or their hometown, such as Streator, versus moving to a larger community, and the reward that comes with it. She encouraged us to dive into our hobbies, because those can grow into ventures, using her father's example. We were impressed with how much goes into the business from products to equipment, all the different people that make it happen and the expertise and training that it involves.
