As we look to our futures, it's important to appreciate and understand the past: Thanks to David Reed at the Streatorland Historical Society Museum for giving us a tour of the museum and telling us several stories from our community's history. David and the contents within the museum provide a treasure of knowledge. We heard about the formation of the Historical Society 50 years ago, how it continues to function and explored the various rooms within the museum, hearing many stories along the way, including how the town was founded, how the high school began, how glass, coal and brick became leading industries in Streator and even the promotion Kerr's Jewelry would run gifting students a free watch. We learned there is a research room available as a resource for historical information. This was one of our favorite trips and we could have spent a couple more hours there.
