Thank you to Kate, Woodland Community Unit School District 5 graduate and founder of Poco a Poco, for talking to us about her career as a professional singer and her establishment of a nonprofit music festival here in Streator. We met her at Park Presbyterian Church where most of the festival takes place. She emphasized holding on to principles when establishing an organization or business, such as "treating people the right way." She also talked about being able to adapt, "knowing yourself" and letting that be a guide, as well as sharing anecdotes about how singing can be a healthy exercise. Her festival (now celebrating 10 years) has brought more than 100 musical students and teachers from around the world to Streator, and involves year-round coordination and fundraising.
