Thank you to Fire Cpt. Bryan Park and the Streator Fire Department for hosting us for a presentation and a tour. Not only did we get to see the department's vehicles and equipment (and ask lots of questions), but also Cpt. Park spoke to us about the importance of a mission statement and setting goals. Just like we did with our individual businesses, the fire department does a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) to determine its goals. Cpt. Park talked about how identifying a weakness led the fire department to adapt the Vile of Life program in the city, and how seizing an opportunity allowed them to work with the Red Cross to distribute thousands of fire detectors around town.
